As moms, we want to be raising HEALTHY GIRLS at every age.
School lunch programs are picking up on this by trying to offer healthier options for hot lunch. Even Mcdonald’s is picking up on this by trying to offer grilled chicken, salads and fruit cups. It is not wrong for us to be teaching our girls at ANY AGE about choosing to put healthy food into their bodies.
Yes, we must be careful about how we talk to our girls. We want them to know that they are “fearfully and wonderfully made.” That they are perfect just the way they are; but we are called to be good stewards of our bodies, by filling it with healthy food and keeping it moving.
Again, schools encourage our kids with PE, and Presidential Fitness testing. But sadly, as you and I know, kids are just not as active as we were when we were young. Personally, as a kid, I was ALWAYS outside. Whether I was rollerskating on the greenbelt, riding my bike on the boardwalk, walking to the beach and to the end of the pier, or swimming in the ocean, I was on the move.
Today, our kids are often times found behind a screen: the television, a tablet, a video game or their phone. (However, on the other hand, many of our kids are in organized sports which is great to keep them moving!).
So, moms, let’s encourage our girls to be rockstar HEALTHY GIRLS! Maybe approach her tomorrow and say, “Sweetheart, mom really wants to focus on getting healthy, being active and eating better. Would you want to join me?
