What’s in a Name?

What’s in a name? Half of you know me as Amethyst and the other half know me as Amy. Although my mom named me Amethyst at birth, she figured it would be too hard for kids to say, so my nickname became Amy. Towards the end of high school my closest friends started calling me Amethyst. Once I got to college I made the official transition to Amethyst. However, my family still calls me Amy. Since I never moved home after graduating from college, it hasn’t really been too confusing. However, what my mom didn’t think of was how hard it would be for some adults to say my name! I’ve been called the strangest names! Here are some classics: Ambrosia, Amber, Antioch, Lasagna (yes, I’m serious), Amathirsty (or Thirsty for short), Am, Aim, and I can’t even type out what I’m usually called because it is just mumbled so badly I don’t know what has been said!

All that to say, this made me think about what we are called and how we feel about it. I’ve been asked if I am now a “rep” or a “consultant” and I have to tell you that I think I’m allergic to those titles/names. I’ve been asked to be a rep/consultant for every home based business out there but I never felt comfortable with the idea. I’ve always loved the products, have purchased them, and in several cases use them daily or weekly still. But being a rep was not something I was interested in.

So, what am I doing now? What am I called? I am officially called a “Coach” for Beachbody, a company which exists to help people achieve both their health and fitness goals, combined with the missing piece of the puzzle: accountability. So, why would I agree to do this kind of job and not the others?

Well, there is a verse in the Bible that says ”The God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our troubles, so that we can comfort those in any trouble with the comfort we ourselves receive from God.” That is what motivates me. I want to help people overcome in an area where I have struggled personally. I want to walk along side YOU and help you overcome. I am passionate about helping people find freedom from anything that keeps them from living fully and experiencing peace within. Whether it be food, fitness, shame, guilt, forgiveness, parenting struggles, spiritual questions…I’m passionate about coming alongside and walking with people. This unique job allows me to do just that. I’m here if you need me. And now, we can add to my obscure list of names, “Coach.”
