Says my dear friend who was hit by a bus and dragged by the bike rack for hundreds of yards after enjoying a brisk walk during her lunch break. She conquered the incredible tragedy and now walks with a cane, while enduring excruciating pain every single day. She covers her leg because it is forever deformed from the accident.
Hmmm…I suppose I regret telling her that I don’t love my legs when she asked if I would wear a short dress that she can no longer wear.
In our culture, we get so caught up with our appearance that we forget to embrace what we have and the amazing abilities that our many functioning body parts have. It becomes so ingrained in our thoughts, that we may even utter something so thoughtless to a person who misses what her legs used to do for her.
I’ve told you before that I hate shorts, that I don’t love my legs, but yesterday I was reminded that my legs are good, strong and capable. They walk me everywhere I need to go every day. They allow me to hike every week and enjoy God’s splendor of the outdoors and wonderful fellowship with friends. They even hiked me up Half Dome last week!
What part of your body just makes you cringe? What do you wish you could change about yourself? The good news is that with nutrition and fitness, there are a lot of areas that we can work on that WILL CHANGE. But what about the areas that won’t change? Shall we hide them forever? Or shall we embrace them and thank God for the ways those body parts take care of us every single day?
Reach out and let me help you change the areas that CAN be changed, and while we do that, we will work on our mental approach to those areas that CANNOT be changed.
